چکیده
The increased use of Holstein genetic material in the Irish dairy herd has consequences for beef production. In all, 42 spring-born steers [14 Holsteins (HO), 14 Friesian (FR) and Charolais × Holstein-Friesian (CH)] were reared to slaughter at between 26 37 mo age. Carcass weight was higher lipid concentration m . longissimus thoracis et lumborum lower (P < 0.05) CH than breeds. Overall acceptability tended be = 0.055) while tenderness, texture chewiness compared with proportion C16:1 total Replacing male offspring traditional “Irish” bulls from a genetically superior (from perspective) strain bull had no commercially important impact on nutritional or eating quality.

Blood metabolic profiles in Uruguayan Holstein and Uruguayan Holstein x New Zealand Holstein-Friesian dairy cows
Blood metabolic profiles were determined from 40 days prepartum to 60 days postpartum in Uruguayan Holstein (UH) (n = 13) and UH x New Zealand Holstein-Friesian first cross (UH-NZHF) (n = 13) cows with seven in each group experiencing their second lactation (L2) and six experiencing their third lactation (L3). Non-esterified fatty acids increased around calving and tended to be greater in UH-L3...
متن کاملThe performance of Holstein Friesian dairy cows of high and medium genetic merit for milk production on grass-based feeding systems
The effect of cow genetic merit on the performance of spring calving Holstein Friesian dairy cows in first, second and third lactation was investigated. The study contained 96 first lactation animals in 1995, 96 second lactation animals in 1996, and 72 third lactation animals in 1997. Half of the animals were of high genetic merit (HG) and half of medium genetic merit (MG) for milk production. ...
متن کاملGenetic aspects of growth of Holstein-Friesian dairy cows from birth to maturity.
In general, genetic selection is applied after first calving to traits that manifest themselves during the animal's productive life, mostly during the early part of productive life. This selection policy has had undesirable correlated responses in other economically important traits, such as health and fertility, and may also have had an effect on the growth of animals both during productive li...
متن کاملGenetic relationships between detailed reproductive traits and performance traits in Holstein-Friesian dairy cattle.
The objective of the study was to estimate the genetic relationships between detailed reproductive traits derived from ultrasound examination of the reproductive tract and a range of performance traits in Holstein-Friesian dairy cows. The performance traits investigated included calving performance, milk production, somatic cell score (i.e., logarithm transformation of somatic cell count), carc...
متن کاملGenetic Association Analysis of Paratuberculosis Forms in Holstein-Friesian Cattle
A genetic susceptibility to Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (MAP) infections in ruminants has been longtime suspected to exist. Recently, natural infections in cattle have been reclassified into latent and patent forms based on histopathological findings and their associations with immunological and microbiological variables. This study aims to explore whether these newly defined ph...
