Measuring the German Output Gap Using Unobserved Component Models
2 Annual and quarterly data on German GDP are decomposed into a nonstationary trend, a stationary cycle and a seasonal component using Kalman filtering and smoothing techniques. The computed trend components of the unobserved component models are then used to calculate annual and quarterly output gap measures for the German economy.
متن کاملInterest rate and output gap: Does central bank credibility matter?
This paper studies the effects of central bank credibility on nominal interest rate and output gap on 17 inflation targeting (IT) developing countries using Instrument Variables (IV) over a period that spans 24 years (1996-2019). In the first stage, using new Keynesian model is obtained “Credibility loss” index to measure the importance of central bank past performance and its deviation from it...
متن کاملMeasuring the Gap
China is a large country where rapid development is accompanied by growing inequalities. How economic inequalities translate to health inequalities is unknown. Baseline health assessment is lacking among rural Chinese children. We aimed at assessing baseline student health of rural Chinese children and comparing them with those of urban children of similar ages. A cross-sectional study was cond...
متن کاملMeasuring the Euro Area Output Gap using Multivariate Unobserved Components Models Containing Phase Shifts
This paper analyses the impact of using different macroeconomic variables and output decompositions to estimate the euro area output gap. We estimate twelve multivariate unobserved components models with phase shifts being allowed between individual cyclical components. As output decomposition plays a central role in all multivariate models, three different output decompositions are utilised; t...
متن کاملMeasuring the Euro Area Output Gap using a Multivariate Unobserved Components Model Containing Phase Shifts
Several recent studies have used multivariate unobserved components models to identify the output gap and the NAIRU. A key assumption of these models is that one common cycle component, such as the output gap, drives the cyclical fluctuations in all variables included in the model. This paper also uses the multivariate approach to estimate the euro area output gap and the trends and cycles in o...
