چکیده
Abstract Rayleigh’s equation has been widely used to determine surface tension from oscillating droplets. In this study, the use of a drop-on-demand droplet generator is proposed create free-falling, oscillating, molten metal droplets for purpose. To examine applicability generator, extensive numerical simulations in three and two-dimensions were performed. The effect gravity, initial velocity deformation on frequency pattern oscillation was investigated. enables creation thousands course single experiment have much shorter exposure time possible unwanted contaminations, due rapid measurement principle. Surface Tension during Molten Metal Granulation
The surface tensions of a number of common commercial ferroalloys have been measured during their granulation in water. These measured values are significantly lower than would be expected from a normal metal-gas interface and are more typical of the interfacial tensions of slag-gas interfaces. This would seem to indicate that the slag-metal interface on the surface of a granule produces no sig...
متن کاملSmoothed particle hydrodynamics-based numerical investigation on sessile, oscillating droplets.
Forced oscillations in sessile droplets can be exploited in electrowetting mixing of fluid fractions. The necessary complex flows and large shape deformations require a numerical investigation of fluid dynamics in the transient regime. We provide a means to characterize oscillations qualitatively and quantitatively with the goal to examine and to classify flow patterns occurring inside. A super...
متن کاملA Splitting Method for Numerical Simulation of Free Surface Flows of Incompressible Fluids with Surface Tension
The paper studies a splitting method for the numerical time-integration of the system of partial differential equations describing the motion of viscous incompressible fluid with free boundary subject to surface tension forces. The method splits one time step into a semi-Lagrangian treatment of the surface advection and fluid inertia, an implicit update of viscous terms and the projection of ve...

The modal testing has proven to be an effective and non-destructive test method for estimation of the dynamic stiffness and damping constant. The aim of the present paper is to investigate the modal response of stiffened Fiber Metal Laminated (FML) circular cylindrical shells using experimental and numerical techniques. For this purpose, three types of FML-stiffened shells are fabricated by a s...
متن کاملSintering of viscous droplets under surface tension
We conduct experiments to investigate the sintering of high-viscosity liquid droplets. Free-standing cylinders of spherical glass beads are heated above their glass transition temperature, causing them to densify under surface tension. We determine the evolving volume of the bead pack at high spatial and temporal resolution. We use these data to test a range of existing models. We extend the mo...
