Measurement of electric-field noise from interchangeable samples with a trapped-ion sensor

چکیده
We demonstrate the use of a single trapped ion as sensor to probe electric-field noise from interchangeable test surfaces. As proof principle, we measure magnitude and distance dependence two ion-trap-like samples with patterned Au electrodes. This trapped-ion could be combined other surface characterization tools help elucidate mechanisms that give rise ion-trap Such presents significant hurdle for performing large-scale quantum computations.

متن کاملMeasurement of Dipole Matrix Elements with a Single Trapped Ion.
We demonstrate a method to determine dipole matrix elements by comparing measurements of dispersive and absorptive light ion interactions. We measure the matrix element pertaining to the Ca II H line, i.e., the 4(2)S(1/2)↔4(2)P(1/2) transition of (40)Ca(+), for which we find the value 2.8928(43) ea(0). Moreover, the method allows us to deduce the lifetime of the 4(2)P(1/2) state to be 6.904(26)...
متن کاملElectric field measurement using a non-perturbative method based on a calibrated electric potential sensor
We present results of finite element analysis for simple test structures which demonstrate clearly that the measurement situation is complex. The test structure consists of an open geometry parallel plate capacitor within a screened enclosure. Indeed, the presence of earthed objects, even at considerable distances, is shown to have a significant effect on the field geometry close to the source....

In this paper, by considering a system consisting of a single two-level trapped ion interacting with a single-mode quantized radiation field inside a lossless cavity, the temporal evolution of the ionic and the cavity-field quantum statistical properties including photon-counting statistics, quantum fluctuations of the field quadratures and quantum fluctuations of the ionic dipole variables are...
