MCMC genome rearrangement
MOTIVATION As more and more genomes have been sequenced, genomic data is rapidly accumulating. Genome-wide mutations are believed more neutral than local mutations such as substitutions, insertions and deletions, therefore phylogenetic investigations based on inversions, transpositions and inverted transpositions are less biased by the hypothesis on neutral evolution. Although efficient algorit...
متن کاملGenome Rearrangement
The difference between genome rearrangement theory and other approaches to comparative genomics, and indeed most other topics in computational molecular biology, is that it is not directly based on macromolecular sequences, either nucleic acids or proteins. Rather like classical genetics, its building blocks are genes, and the structures of interest are chromosomes, abstracted in terms of the l...
متن کاملGenome rearrangement algorithms
With the increasing amount of sequenced genomes, a comparison of species based on these data becomes more and more interesting. In contrast to the classical approach, where only point mutations were considered, genome rearrangement problems ignore small mutations and only consider large-scale mutations that change the gene order on the chromosomes. This makes these problems a powerful tool when...
متن کاملHybridization and Genome Rearrangement
We infer post-hybridization rearrangements in a hybrid genome, given the gene orders on its chromosomes and some knowledge of the two parent genomes. We study this in two biologically and computationally different contexts, genome fusion and interspecific fertilization. Exact algorithms are furnished for some cases, and a heuristic based on the Hannenhalli-Pevzner theory for another.
متن کاملGenome Rearrangement and Planning
The genome rearrangement problem is to find the most economical explanation for observed differences between the gene orders of two genomes. Such an explanation is provided in terms of events that change the order of genes in a genome. We present a new approach to the genome rearrangement problem, according to which this problem is viewed as the problem of planning rearrangement events that tra...
