Mathematical Modeling on Optimization of Submerged Entry Nozzle for an Ultra-Thick Slab Continuous Casting Mold

To optimize the submerged entry nozzle (SEN) for an ultra-thick slab mold, a mathematical model has been established. The molten steel flow and solidification, inclusion transports, meniscus fluctuation have investigated through model. Compared with concave-bottom SEN cases, convex-bottom decreases imping depth of jet increases horizontal velocity temperature on meniscus. However, remelting solidified shell is dramatic case. well SEN’s little influence solidification. effects port shape angle are significant. As changes from rectangle to square or downward decreases, mold free surface increase. For square-shaped-port −10° more beneficial by comprehensive consideration removal, powder melting. optimized applied actual caster its performance assessed, indicating that optimization efficient.
