چکیده
Abstract Background Periconceptional folic acid (FA) supplementation not only reduces the incidence of neural tube defects, but also improves cognitive performances in offspring. However, genes or pathways that are epigenetically regulated by FA neurodevelopment were rarely reported. Methods To elucidate underlying mechanism, effect on methylation profiles brain tissue male rat offspring was assessed methylated DNA immunoprecipitation chip. Differentially (DMGs) and gene network analysis identified using DAVID KEGG pathway analysis. Results Compared with folate-normal diet group, 1939 DMGs folate-deficient 1498 folate-supplemented among which 298 overlapped. The associated learning/memory abilities differentially response to maternal intake during pregnancy, there some identical distinctive potential mechanisms under deficiency FA-supplemented conditions. Conclusions In conclusion, pregnancy.

Periconceptional Folic Acid Supplementation Benefit to Development of Early Sensory-Motor Function through Increase DNA Methylation in Rat Offspring
Periconceptional maternal folate levels may alter DNA methylation patterns and health outcomes in offspring. We hypothesized that maternal folic acid supplementation alters fetal neural development through DNA methylation in the fetal brain. Twenty-eight rats were randomly assigned to four groups: three groups of the female rats were fed folate-normal, folate-deficient or folate-supplemented di...
متن کاملMaternal obesity enhances white adipose tissue differentiation and alters genome-scale DNA methylation in male rat offspring.
The risk of obesity (OB) in adulthood is strongly influenced by maternal body composition. Here we examined the hypothesis that maternal OB influences white adipose tissue (WAT) transcriptome and increases propensity for adipogenesis in the offspring, prior to the development of OB, using an established model of long-term metabolic programming. Employing an overfeeding-based rat model, in which...
متن کاملThe Effect of Maternal High-Fat Feeding on Energy Homeostasis in Stressed Adult Male Rat Offspring
Introduction: In the present study the effect of chronic maternal high-fat diet consumption on energy homeostasis and glucose metabolism in response to chronic stress was investigated in adult male rats. Materials and Methods: Female rats were divided into two groups of normal and high fat diets. Each group received their diet from 3 weeks before pregnancy until the end of lactation. At 8 weeks...
متن کاملEffects of Altered Maternal Folic Acid, Vitamin B12 and Docosahexaenoic Acid on Placental Global DNA Methylation Patterns in Wistar Rats
Potential adverse effects of excess maternal folic acid supplementation on a vegetarian population deficient in vitamin B(12) are poorly understood. We have previously shown in a rat model that maternal folic acid supplementation at marginal protein levels reduces brain omega-3 fatty acid levels in the adult offspring. We have also reported that reduced docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) levels may res...
متن کاملMaternal High Folic Acid Supplement Promotes Glucose Intolerance and Insulin Resistance in Male Mouse Offspring Fed a High-Fat Diet
Maternal nutrition may influence metabolic profiles in offspring. We aimed to investigate the effect of maternal folic acid supplement on glucose metabolism in mouse offspring fed a high-fat diet (HFD). Sixty C57BL/6 female mice were randomly assigned into three dietary groups and fed the AIN-93G diet containing 2 (control), 5 (recommended folic acid supplement, RFolS) or 40 (high folic acid su...
