Match officials and abuse: a systematic review

Research question Match official abuse (MOA) in team sports has become a prominent issue within sport management; the effects of MOA on safety, wellbeing and retention officials led to growth academic enquiry. The present review aimed develop thorough understanding through perspective from various sports.Research methods authors conducted systematic literature match officials' experiences abuse. databases (PsychInfo, Scopus, PubMed, Science Direct, SPORTDiscus, Web Science) were screened for peer-reviewed research published between 1999 2022. Sixty studies mixed designs retained evaluated using Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool (MMAT).Results Findings Qualitative synthesis results identified five key themes empirical findings pertaining nature prevalence abuse; performance, retention; interpersonal conflict facilitators officials’ attitudes towards current support intervention. Results show that individuals at all levels competition can adversely affect performance officials.Implications are used identify relevant management issues discuss potential policy outcomes reducing adverse MOA.
