Mass Spectrometric Discrimination of Acyclic Stereoisomers via Competing Unimolecular Decompositions
One of the most difficult challenges of structural analysis is to determine the relative stereochemistry of two asymmetrically substituted centers in an acyclic system. Mass spectrometry has long been known (although perhaps not widely recognized) to have the capacity to accomplish this. The subject has been reviewed, most recently a decade ago (1–3). In the intervening time, in...
متن کاملRapid identification of viridans streptococci by mass spectrometric discrimination.
Viridans streptococci (VS) are responsible for several systemic diseases, such as endocarditis, abscesses, and septicemia. Unfortunately, species identification by conventional methods seems to be more difficult than species identification of other groups of bacteria. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the use of cell matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spe...
متن کاملMass Spectrometric Analysis of Glycosphingolipid Antigens
Glycosphingolipids (GSL's) belong to the glycoconjugate class of biomacromolecules, which bear structural information for significant biological processes such as embryonic development, signal transduction, and immune receptor recognition(1-2). They contain complex sugar moieties in the form of isomers, and lipid moieties with variations including fatty acyl chain length, unsaturation, and hydr...
متن کاملMass-spectrometric analysis of glycerophospholipid metabolism
This thesis consists of five parts. In the first part, an automated method for quantitative analysis of phospholipid compositions of cells and tissues by liquid chromatographymass spectrometry was developed. In the second part, this method was applied to investigate brain lipid compositions of patients with progressive epilepsy with mental retardation (EPMR), caused by mutations in the CLN8 gen...
متن کاملMass spectrometric analysis of glucose-modified ribonuclease.
RNase A (1 mM) was incubated with glucose (0.4 M) at 37 degrees C for up to 14 days in phosphate buffer (0.2 M, pH 7.4), digested with trypsin and analysed by LC-MS. The major sites of fructoselysine formation were Lys(1), Lys(7), Lys(37) and Lys(41). Three of these sites (Lys(7), Lys(37) and Lys(41)) were also the major sites of N epsilon-(carboxymethyl)lysine formation.
