Mass functions and photometric binaries in nine open clusters
Using homogeneous CCD photometric data from the 105-cm Kiso Schmidt telescope covering a 50 × 50 field, we study the mass functions (MFs) of nine open clusters. The ages and Galactocentric distances of the target clusters vary from 16 2000 Myr and 9-10.8 kpc, respectively. The values of MF slopes vary from -1.1 to -2.1. The classical value derived by Salpeter (1955) for the slope of the IMF is ...
متن کاملEclipsing Binaries in Open Clusters
Detached eclipsing binaries are very useful objects for calibrating theoretical stellar models and checking their predictions. Detached eclipsing binaries in open clusters are particularly important because of the additional constraints on their age and chemical composition from their membership of the cluster. I compile a list containing absolute parameters of wellstudied eclipsing binaries in...
متن کاملPrimordial Binaries and Intermediate Mass Black Holes in Globular Clusters
We present the first study of the dynamical evolution of a star cluster that combines a significant population of primordial binaries with the presence of a central black hole. We use direct N-body simulations, with a black hole mass of about one percent of the total mass of the cluster. The evolution of the binary population is strongly influenced by the presence of the black hole, which gives...
متن کاملThe dynamical evolution of very low mass binaries in open clusters
Very low mass binaries (VLMBs), with system masses <0.2 M appear to have very different properties to stellar binaries. This has led to the suggestion that VLMBs form a distinct and different population. As most stars are born in clusters, dynamical evolution can significantly alter any initial binary population, preferentially destroying wide binaries. In this paper, we examine the dynamical e...
متن کاملEclipsing binaries in open clusters . III . V 621 Per in
V621Persei is a detached eclipsing binary in the open cluster χPersei which is composed of an early B-type giant star and a main sequence secondary component. From high-resolution spectroscopic observations and radial velocities from the literature, we determine the orbital period to be 25.5 days and the primary velocity semiamplitude to be K = 64.5 ± 0.4 km s. No trace of the secondary star ha...
