Homomorphisms of Knot Groups on Finite Groups
We describe trial and error computer programs for finding certain homomorphisms of a knot group on a special projective group LF(2, p), p prime, and programs to evaluate #i(3TC ; Z) where 9TC is a finitely sheeted branched covering space of S3 associated with such a homomorphism. These programs have been applied to several collections of examples, in particular to the Kinoshita-Terasaka knots, ...
متن کاملQuasi-homomorphisms on Mapping Class Groups
We refine the construction of quasi-homomorphisms on mapping class groups. It is useful to know that there are unbounded quasihomomorphisms which are bounded when restricted to particular subgroups since then one deduces that the mapping class group is not boundedly generated by these subgroups. In this note we enlarge the class of such subgroups. The generalization is motivated by consideratio...
متن کاملHomomorphisms from Mapping Class Groups
This paper concerns rigidity of the mapping class groups. We show that any homomorphism φ : Modg → Modh between mapping class groups of closed orientable surfaces with distinct genera g > h is trivial if g ≥ 3 and has finite image for all g ≥ 1. Some implications are drawn for more general homomorphs of these groups.
متن کاملOn the Zero-divisor Cayley Graph of a Finite Commutative Ring
Let R be a fnite commutative ring and N(R) be the set of non unit elements of R. The non unit graph of R, denoted by Gamma(R), is the graph obtained by setting all the elements of N(R) to be the vertices and defning distinct vertices x and y to be adjacent if and only if x - yin N(R). In this paper, the basic properties of Gamma(R) are investigated and some characterization results regarding co...
متن کاملArithmetical Characterizations of Divisor Class Groups Ii
Almost 20 years ago, W. Narkiewicz posed the problem to give an arithmetical characterization of the ideal class group of an algebraic number field ([13, problem 32]). In the meantime there are various answers to this question if the ideal class group has a special form. (cf. [4], [5], [12] and the literature cited there). The general case was treated by J. Koczorowski [11], F. Halter-Koch [8],...
