Mapping tourism and hospitality research on information and communication technology: a bibliometric and scientific approach

Technology and information communication technology (ICT) have been gaining importance in tourism hospitality with a booming research interest during the last years specifically recently due to disruptions of COVID-19 crisis. Hence it is useful structure existing knowledge this field better guide directions for future research. To that end, study synthesizes academic literature about ‘technology ICT’ by carrying out bibliometric analysis. The identified 2424 documents, including words ‘technolog*’ and/or ‘ICT’ combined ‘touris*’, ‘hospitality’, ‘hotel’, ‘travel’ were published period 1988–2021 collected from journals indexed Web Science (WOS) SCOPUS databases. analysis was carried using SciMAT software, which offers different tools methods order achieve consistent results through keyword co-occurrence an evolution map. findings revealed major themes, acceptance model, electronic word-of-mouth, user-generated content, self-services technologies, robotics, smart tourism, virtual reality, trust technology. concludes identifying discussing agenda.
