چکیده
Abstract Ionic polymer metal composites (IPMCs) are a class of materials with rising appeal in biological micro-electromechanical systems (bio-MEMS) due to their unique properties (low voltage output, bio-compatibility, affinity ionic medium). While tailoring and improving actuation capabilities IPMCs is key motivator almost all IPMC manufacturing reports, very little efforts have been dedicated sensing using thinner than 100 µ m. Most reports on utilization rely 180 m-thick Nafion platinum electrodes, too stiff for bio-MEMS applications. The same fabrication process membranes does yield poor electrodes performance, needs be studied increase flexibility sensitivity the microscale range. This study demonstrates an electroless Pt deposition method fabricating bio-MEMS-suitable 50 samples. Integrated sensing for ionic polymer–metal composite actuators using PVDF thin films
Abstract Compact sensing methods are desirable for ionic polymer–metal composite (IPMC) actuators in microrobotic and biomedical applications. In this paper a novel sensing scheme for IPMC actuators is proposed by bonding an IPMC and a PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) thin film with an insulating layer in between. The insulating layer thickness is properly designed to minimize the stiffness of th...

A dynamic, physics-based model is presented for ionic polymer–metal composite (IPMC) sensors. The model is an infinite-dimensional transfer function relating the short-circuit sensing current to the applied deformation. It is obtained by deriving the exact solution to the governing partial differential equation (PDE) for the sensing dynamics, where the effect of distributed surface resistance i...
متن کاملA theoretical model for analysis of ionic polymer metal composite sensors in fluid environments
By the past two decades IPMCs have been intensively studied because of their special capabilities for actuation and sensing. This paper presents a theoretical physics based model for analyzing the behavior of IPMC sensors in fluid environments. The mechanical vibration of the IPMC strip is described by the classical Euler–Bernoulli beam theory. The model also takes in to account the physical pro...
