Management of Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia at Extremes of Age

چکیده
Tailored treatment with all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) and arsenic trioxide (ATO) has revolutionized the outcome of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) from a uniformly fatal disease to one most curable malignant diseases in humans. Due its high efficacy, ATO/ATRA is standard first-line therapy younger adult, non-high-risk APL patients. However, early death still major issue APL, particularly older Thus, rapid diagnostics, immediate access ATRA-based therapy, supportive care are utmost importance. Nevertheless, challenging situations occur, patients excluded controlled studies clinical knowledge mainly based on case reports registries. Besides newly diagnosed patients, managing toxicities complications remains challenging. This review discusses approach elderly pediatric

Epigenetic effects of decitabine on acute lymphoblastic and acute promyelocytic leukemia cells
Background: Decitabine (5-aza-2'-deoxycytidine, DAC) is a deoxycytidine analog currently used as an effective drug against myelodysplastic syndromes and acute myeloid leukemia. Although various studies have pointed out the epigenetic effects of this drug, its epigenetic mechanisms in different leukemic cell lines are not specified. In this lab trial study, possible epigenetic effects of decitab...

The therapeutic approach to the patient with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) currently evolves toward new frontiers. This is particularly apparent from the entree of high-throughput diagnostic technologies and the identification of prognostic and therapeutic targets, the introduction of therapies in genetically defined subgroups of AML, as well as the influx of investigational approaches and novel...
متن کاملEpidemiology of acute promyelocytic leukemia.
BACKGROUND The estimated incidence of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) is approximately 6 cases per 10 million people per year with no apparent differences between sexes. The age of APL cases is younger than that of other acute myeloid leukemias (AML). Spatial and temporal clusters of APL have been reported. These observations suggest a possible selective role for environmental and/or occupat...
متن کاملProgress and criticalities in the management of acute promyelocytic leukemia
In only few decades, remarkable advances in biology and therapy have transformed acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), once regarded as the most rapidly fatal human leukemia, into a paradigm of targeted treatment in human cancer, with most patients being nowadays curable without any or with only small amounts of conventional chemotherapy. Yet, the management of this rare subtype of leukemia remai...
