Their diagnosis is challenging, most deaths aortic dissection diagnosed at post-mortem. classified location chronicity, management strategies depending on nature dissection. The Stanford method splits type A B, involving ascending aorta. De Bakey classifies I, II or III their origin involvement degree extension. key early suspicion, appropriate imaging initiation treatment. Treatment focuses initial resuscitation, transfer (if possible required) suitable specialist centre, strict blood pressure heart rate control potentially surgical intervention complexity Effective post-operative care extremely important, awareness potential complications multi-disciplinary rehabilitation approach required. In review article we will discuss aetiology classifications dissection, principles relevant critical care. Critical clinicians play part all these steps, from care, thus thorough understanding vital.
