Management diversification increases habitat availability for multiple biodiversity indicator species in production forests

چکیده

Abstract Context Forest biodiversity is closely linked to habitat heterogeneity, while forestry actions often cause homogenization. Alternative approaches even-aged management were developed restore heterogeneity at the stand level, but how their application could promote diversity landscape scale remains uncertain. Objectives We tested potential benefit of diversifying regimes increase landscape-level heterogeneity. hypothesize that different styles forest would create a diverse mosaic habitats in turn species with various requirements. Methods stands simulated under business-as-usual management, set-aside (no management) and 12 alternative regimes. created virtual landscapes following diversification scenarios (i) compare individual performance diversification), (ii) test for hypothesis levels set-aside. For each landscape, we evaluated availability six indicator species, multispecies availability, economic values production. Results Each responded differently regimes, no single regime being optimal all same time. Management led 30% gain relative management. By selecting subset five high biodiversity, gains can reach 50%. Conclusions Various offer species. yield large or low cost, providing cost-effective tool if are thoughtfully selected.

Effect of conserving habitat for biodiversity on optimal management of non-industrial private forests in Florida

Healthy forests and enhanced habitat for wildlife is a growing concern among public and policy makers. These concerns have led to substantial interest in promoting various regulatory and voluntary compliance policies to further biodiversity on private forests. These policies, however, might result in additional cost to forestland owners. In this paper, we estimate the opportunity cost of adopti...

BIODIVERSITY OF WOODY SPECIES IN Acer platanoides SITES IN THE SHAFAROUD FORESTS, GILAN (IRAN)

In this research, biodiversity was investigated in the species diversity level. The objective of this research was to study of Norway Maple (Acer platanoides L.) dispersion and biodiversity of associated woody species in the Shafaroud forests, Gilan (IRAN). In this regard, a 0.5 ha lozenge sample plot was selected with considering presence of Norway Maple in each site. In each plot, geographic ...

Island species richness increases with habitat diversity.

Species richness is commonly thought to increase with habitat diversity. However, a recent theoretical model aiming to unify niche and island biogeography theories predicted a hump-shaped relationship between richness and habitat diversity. Given the contradiction between model results and previous knowledge, we examine whether the relationship between species richness and habitat diversity is ...
