Malaria in West Cameroon: An Assessment of the Populations’ Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices

Background: Malaria remains one of the main causes morbidity and mortality in Cameroon. Children under 5 years old pregnant women are most burdened. A few studies have been carried out on knowledge, attitudes practices (KAP) patients towards malaria this country. Objective: We aimed at evaluating level practice Western Method: conducted a cross-sectional survey, using semi-opened questionnaire two Cameroonian’s hospitals April 2018. analyzed our collected data with Chi square test through SAS software (version 9.4). P-values lower than 0.05 were considered statistically significant. Result: Of 691 participants, 55.14% (381/691) defined as parasitic disease, 100% mentioned mosquito transmission vector 89.15% (616/691) blood stream route. The preventive method used by participants was nets. use treatment associated income fact consultation health care practitioner month preceding survey. About 72.4% (501/691) respondents took antimalarial without or medical prescription. Among who spent less 8000XAF (12Euro) for during their last episode malaria, 70.1% (101/144) plant-based treatment. Conclusion: Participants had good knowledge malaria. However, not best.
