چکیده

Increased water demands and drought have resulted in the need to provide data guide deficit management decisions irrigated maize ( Zea mays L.) for grain production. The objective of this study was develop relationships between yield use (ETc, crop evapotranspiration) under low high nitrogen (N) input systems on a soil type (silt loam) common production arid Northwest U.S. treatments consisted two N inputs (0 246 kg ha -1 year , -N +N, respectively) four ranging from 100% 25% full irrigation. irrigation treatment 20% less than evapotranspiration model calculated (ETm), indicating that coefficient (Kc) values may be adjusted There were no response differences 2017 but during 2018 2019 (treatments same plots), ETc versus different +N treatments. Crop functions developed using quadratic yield. range across all years 15.03–7.23 Mg . productivity (CWP) 1.6–2.6 m -3 at maximum CWPs had 60–71% ETm. High-yield irrigated maize in the Western U.S. Corn Belt: II. Irrigation management and crop water productivity

Appropriate benchmarks for water productivity (WP), defined here as the amount of grain yield produced per unit of water supply, are needed to help identify and diagnose inefficiencies in crop production and water management in irrigated systems. Such analysis is lacking for maize in the Western U.S. Corn Belt where irrigated production represents 58% of total maize output. The objective of thi...

Assessment of strip tillage systems for maize production in semi-arid Ethiopia: effects on grain yield and water balance

Papers published in Hydrology and Earth System Sciences Discussions are under open-access review for the journal Hydrology and Earth System Sciences Abstract The traditional tillage implement, the Maresha plow, and the tillage systems that require repeated and cross plowing have caused poor rainfall partitioning, land degradation and hence low water productivity in Ethiopia. Conservation tillag...

Climate change impacts on crop yield, crop water productivity and food security – A review

This paper provides a comprehensive review of literature related to the assessment of climate change impacts on crop productivity using climate, water and crop yield models. The existing studies present that climate change models with higher spatial resolution can be a way forward for future climate projections. Meanwhile, stochastic projections of more than one climate model are necessary for ...

Water consumption, grain yield, and water productivity in response to field water management in double rice systems in China

Rice cultivation has been challenged by increasing food demand and water scarcity. We examined the responses of water use, grain yield, and water productivity to various modes of field water managements in Chinese double rice systems. Four treatments were studied in a long-term field experiment (1998-2015): continuous flooding (CF), flooding-midseason drying-flooding (F-D-F), flooding-midseason...
