چکیده
Abstract As a promising non-destructive testing (NDT) method, magnetic flux leakage (MFL) has been widely used for steel structure inspection. However, MFL still faces great challenge to detect inner defects. Existing course researches mainly focus on surface-breaking defects while that of is overlooked. In the paper, investigated by building circuit models, performing numerical simulations, and conducting experiments. It found near-surface wall an enhancing effect due higher permeability than air. Further, high-sensitivity method consisting Helmholtz coil magnetization induction with high core proposed increase detectable depth Experimental results show buried up 80.0 mm can be detected, suggesting potential deeply-buried future in field NDT.

Characterization of Defects in Magnetic Flux Leakage Images
One of the most challenging scientific industrial problems in recent years is automatic defect detection and characterization. Automatic defect detection can replace human operators who locate and identify defects. Detection of defects in the steam generating tubes through periodic inservice inspection is one of the most significant issues of the fast breeder reactors. Among various pipeline in...
متن کاملMagnetic Flux Leakage Investigation of Interacting Defects: Competitive Effects of Stress Concentration and Magnetic Shielding
The magnetic flux leakage (MFL) method is used for in-line inspection of oil and gas pipelines. Corrosion-induced MFL signals are sensitive to the level of stress and magnetic flux density existing in the pipe wall. Defects act as stress raisers, locally influencing the magnetization of the material, and subsequently the path of flux flow. Two adjacent corrosion pits can furthermore complicate ...
متن کاملNew Techniques for the Quantification of Defects Through Pulsed Magnetic Flux Leakage
Although the probability of defect detection using magnetic flux leakage (MFL) inspection is sufficient for most applications for which it is used; inspection of ferromagnetic pipeline, wire rope, etc., accurate defect characterisation is problematic. The use of pulsed excitation in conjunction with MFL provides an opportunity for the extraction of depth information from the MFL signal using an...

Method: A continuous non-contact scanning method is used in the rectangular slot defect in the different regions of the weld by using a new magnetization system that is vertical to the travelling direction. The characteristics of the weld and the defect are transformed into accurate two-dimensional grayscale graphics through grayscale linear transformation. This is done through the combination ...

Oil and gas pipelines are pressure vessels with steel walls operating at up to 70% of their yield strength. They need to be inspected rigorously to avoid failure and for environmental safety reasons. Magnetic flux leakage (MFL) is the most cost effective technique for in-service corrosion inspection ofburied gas pipelines [1]. In this method, the pipe wall is magnetized to near-saturation using...
