Magnetic bulk photovoltaic effect: Strong and weak field

Shift current and ballistic have been proposed to explain the bulk photovoltaic effect (BPVE), there experiments designed separate two mechanisms. These are based on assumption that under magnetic field, can a Hall while shift cannot, which is from some energy-scale arguments has never proven. A recent work [D. Hornung R. von Baltz, Phys. Rev. B 103, 195203 (2021)] using quantum transport formalism achieves conclusion indeed current, seemingly contradicting previous making situation more confusing. Moreover, behavior of BPVE strong field still unexplored. In this Letter, minimal two-dimensional tight-binding model, we carry out systematic numerical study weak by treating in nonperturbative way. Our model clearly shows appearance magnetically induced along transverse direction, agrees with predictions, interestingly sizable longitudinal response also observed, phenomenon not captured any existing theories where treated perturbatively. More surprisingly, drastically different found strong-field regime, evolution resembles phase transition. We hope our could resolve debate over expected inspire studies relation between nonlinear optics geometry.
