Magmatic Processes at Euganean Hills (Veneto Volcanic Province, Italy): Clinopyroxene Investigation to Unravel Magmatic Interactions

چکیده

The Euganean Hills (NE Italy) magmatic district represents the final volcanic activity of Veneto Volcanic Province. Alkaline to subalkaline suite dominated by intermediate felsic rocks characterises latest Hills. Magmatic (intrusive and volcanic) enclaves are common in trachytes. We used ability clinopyroxene record variations P, T, fO2 reconstruct geological history trachytic host. Despite similar major trace elements composition, from host is higher Ca Na (and Fe3+) lower Mg than slightly enriched but with same pattern distribution. Minor differences geochemistry crystal structure suggest parental magmas that differs small degrees fractional crystallisation. Clinopyroxene geobarometry performed combining X-ray diffraction mineral for enclaves–trachytic combined amphibole intrusive mushes points a crystallisation pressure range between 4.8–2.0 kbars. Our data support model complex system magma chambers at shallow crustal level where mafic accumulated, evolved fractionation processes mixed.

Assessment of lithogenic radioactivity in the Euganean Hills magmatic district (NE Italy)

The Euganean Hills of North East Italy have long been recognised as an area characterized by a higher than average natural radiation background. This is due to two main reasons: a) primary lithogenic radiation due to rhyolitic and trachytic outcrops, which are “acidic alkaline” magmatic rocks potentially enriched in uranium and thorium; b) secondary sources related to a geothermal field – widel...

Magmatic Processes : Physicochemical Principles

The viscosities of eight melt compositions in the System albite-H20-F20_1 have been determined at high pressure and temperature. Measurements were performed using the falling sphere method at 1000-1600°C and 2.5 to 22.5 kbar. Fluorine and water strongly decrease the viscosity of albite melt at all pressures and temperatures investigated. The viscosity of a fluorine-bearing albitic melt decrease...

Geochemistry of intermediate to siliceous volcanic rocks of the Rooiberg Group, Bushveld Magmatic Province, South Africa

The volcanic Rooiberg Group represents the earliest phase of Bushveld-related magmatism and comprises, in some areas, the floor and roof rocks of the mafic–ultramafic intrusive units of the Bushveld Complex. The lower to middle Dullstroom Formation is composed of two interbedded series of low Ti and high Ti volcanic strata, which are predominantly basaltic andesites. Volcanic units above these ...
