Macrobenthic Assemblages, Distribution and Functional Guilds from a Freshwater-Dominated Tropical Estuary

چکیده
Assessment of benthic diversity and estuarine ecological quality is becoming increasingly important. Estuaries are not only highly productive variable environments, but they also areas high anthropogenic perturbations. In this study, macrofauna were sorted, identified analyzed from a freshwater-dominated tropical estuary along the Bay Bengal to assess their community structure, distribution functional guilds, uncover environmental drivers influencing distributional patterns. Results revealed that studied physio-chemical variables (DO, pH, alkalinity temperature) significantly varied (p < 0.05) among sites. Capitella sp. was dominant (18%) forty morphospecies recorded, indicating organic richness area. The ANOVA results macrobenthic density differed 0.01) between study locations, indices (Shannon index, H′) (F4,12 = 5.89; p 0.02). decreased head mouth, which could be related salinity fluctuations large freshwater discharges. Upstream sites completely segregated downstream mid-estuarine sites, according cluster analysis (CA). SIMPER clarified site grouping pattern, showing Mysis-1 spp., spp. Nephtys-1 most significant contributors. From communities, five trophic groups where deposit feeders (66.44%). Most macrobenthos had strong positive correlations with DO (r 0.92) water temperature 0.86) negative correlation soil pH −0.28), per CCA analyses. Individually, 0.88) 0.898) showed Chironomus sp.2. above indicate do follow usual pattern spatial distribution, structured by DO, pH. addition, dominance some pollution indicator species (Capitella sp.) indicates poor condition estuary.

Vertical stratification of feeding guilds and body size in beetle assemblages from an Australian tropical rainforest
The vertical stratification of insect species assemblages inhabiting tropical rainforests is well established but few have examined whether these patterns are reflected in vertical stratification of body size or feeding guilds. We used Malaise and Flight InterceptionTraps to sample beetle assemblages from five locations, at both canopy and ground zones of a tropical lowland rainforest site near...
متن کاملEffects of the green macroalga Enteromorpha intestinalis on macrobenthic and seagrass assemblages in a shallow coastal estuary
A common symptom of eutrophication in temperate estuaries is the proliferation of ephemeral, floating macroalgae. Information on the effects of blooms on underlying assemblages mostly originates from non-vegetated intertidal and subtidal habitats. Blooms also often settle in large aggregations over seagrasses, where they decompose. To test hypotheses concerning the effect of dense mats on under...

Nutritional value of freshwater mesozooplankton, fatty acid (FA) and amino acid (AA) compositions were determined in the middle of each season for a one-year period from May 2009 to February 2010 in Hanna Dam Lake, Isfahan, Iran. FA and AA composition significantly (P < 0.05) varied in relation to the seasonal changes of water quality, phytoplankton and zooplankton community. The content of sat...

متن کاملStructure and diversity of phyllostomid bat assemblages on riparian corridors in a human-dominated tropical landscape
Tropical forests around the world have been lost, mainly because of agricultural activities. Linear elements like riparian vegetation in fragmented tropical landscapes help maintain the native flora and fauna. Information about the role of riparian corridors as a reservoir of bat species, however, is scanty. We assessed the value of riparian corridors on the conservation of phyllostomid bat ass...
