چکیده

Pattern-recognition receptor (PRR)-triggered immunity (PTI) wards off a wide range of pathogenic microbes, playing pivotal role in angiosperms. The model liverwort Marchantia polymorpha triggers defense-related gene expression upon sensing components bacterial and fungal extracts, suggesting the existence PTI this plant model. However, molecular putative M. significance bryophytes have not yet been described. We here show that has four lysin motif (LysM)-domain-containing homologs, two which, LysM-receptor-like kinase (LYK) MpLYK1 LYK-related (LYR) MpLYR, are responsible for chitin peptidoglycan fragments, triggering series characteristic immune responses. Comprehensive phosphoproteomic analysis response to treatment identified regulatory proteins potentially shape LysM-mediated PTI. included homologs well-described angiosperms as well whose roles determined, including blue-light phototropin MpPHOT. revealed MpPHOT is required negative feedback during Taken together, study outlines basic framework highlights conserved elements new aspects pattern-triggered land plants.

Signaling mechanisms in pattern-triggered immunity (PTI).

In nature, plants constantly have to face pathogen attacks. However, plant disease rarely occurs due to efficient immune systems possessed by the host plants. Pathogens are perceived by two different recognition systems that initiate the so-called pattern-triggered immunity (PTI) and effector-triggered immunity (ETI), both of which are accompanied by a set of induced defenses that usually repel...

Phytochrome Signaling Is Mediated by PHYTOCHROME INTERACTING FACTOR in the Liverwort Marchantia polymorpha.

Phytochromes are red light (R) and far-red light (FR) receptors that play important roles in many aspects of plant growth and development. Phytochromes mainly function in the nucleus and regulate sets of genes by inhibiting negatively acting basic helix-loop-helix transcription factors named PHYTOCHROME INTERACTING FACTORs (PIFs) in Arabidopsis thaliana Although R/FR photoreversible responses a...

Role of LysM receptors in chitin-triggered plant innate immunity

Recent research findings clearly indicate that lysin motif (LysM)-containing cell surface receptors are involved in the recognition of specific oligosaccharide elicitors (chitin and peptidoglycan), which trigger an innate immunity response in plants. These receptors are either LysM-containing receptor-like kinases (LYKs) or LysM-containing receptor proteins (LYPs). In Arabidopsis, five LYKs (At...

Profiling and Characterization of Small RNAs in the Liverwort, Marchantia polymorpha, Belonging to the First Diverged Land Plants.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have important roles in gene regulation during plant development. Previous studies revealed that some miRNAs are highly shared by most land plants. Recently, the liverwort, Marchantia polymorpha, has been studied by molecular genetic approaches, and sequencing of its genome is currently underway. The expression pattern and the detailed functions of miRNAs during Marchantia de...

MAMP (microbe-associated molecular pattern) triggered immunity in plants

Plants are sessile organisms that are under constant attack from microbes. They rely on both preformed defenses, and their innate immune system to ward of the microbial pathogens. Preformed defences include for example the cell wall and cuticle, which act as physical barriers to microbial colonization. The plant immune system is composed of surveillance systems that perceive several general mic...
