Detection of Australian gill-associated virus (GAV) and lymphoid organ virus (LOV) of Penaeus monodon by RT-nested PCR.
A highly sensitive test based on reverse transcription followed by nested polymerase chain reaction (RT-nPCR) was developed to detect the Australian yellow-head-like viruses, gill-associated virus (GAV) and lymphoid organ virus (LOV) of Penaeus monodon. The RT-nPCR detected viral RNA in as little as 10 fg lymphoid organ total RNA isolated from GAV-infected P. monodon. Amplification of serial di...
متن کاملThe haemocytic origin of lymphoid organ spheroid cells in the penaeid prawn Penaeus monodon.
Studies on lymphoid organ spheroid (LOS) cells of Penaeus monodon were undertaken. Phenoloxidase and peroxidase assays showed that LOS cells have characteristics similar to semi-granular and, in particular, large granular haemocytes. The mean percentage of LOS cells positive for phenoloxidase and peroxidase was 85 +/- 23 and 82 +/- 23%, respectively. There was no significant difference between ...
متن کاملA Circo-Like Virus Isolated from Penaeus monodon Shrimps
A virus with a circular Rep-encoding single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) (CRESS-DNA) genome (PmCV-1) was isolated from Penaeus monodon shrimps in Vietnam. The gene structure of the 1,777-nucleotide (nt) genome was similar to that of circoviruses and cycloviruses, but the nucleic acid and protein sequence identities to these viruses were very low.
متن کاملIdentification and characterization of a Penaeus monodon lymphoid cell-expressed receptor for the yellow head virus.
The yellow head virus is a positive-sense, single-stranded RNA virus that causes significant mortality in farmed penaeid shrimp. This study sought to isolate and characterize the receptor protein used by the virus to gain entry into Penaeus monodon Oka (lymphoid) organ cells, a primary target of yellow head virus infections. Virus overlay protein binding assay on Oka organ membrane preparations...
متن کاملFatal, virus-associated peripheral neuropathy and retinopathy in farmed Penaeus monodon in eastern Australia. I. Pathology.
Lesions are described in farmed Penaeus monodon affected with a previously unreported, fatal disease, 'peripheral neuropathy and retinopathy' (PNR). Outbreaks, associated with minor to heavy mortalities, occurred in 22 of 25 ponds on a farm in eastern Australia during the mid to late 1998/99 growout period. Moribund prawns, 5 to 26 g mean body weight, gathered at pond edges and were typically r...
