Luminescence Properties of Fe2+:ZnSe Single Crystals Grown via a Traveling Heater Method

The luminescence properties of iron-doped ZnSe (Fe2+:ZnSe) single crystals grown via a traveling heater method have been studied photoluminescence (PL). Nine emission bands were identified in the PL spectra Fe2+:ZnSe and their origins also discussed. near-infrared seen at 820 nm 978 can be attributed to formed by background Fe or other impurity-related defect complexes crystals, rather than doped transition-metal-related defects. With increase temperature, intensity increased slightly reached maximum near room temperature for bound excitons (430–490 nm), but decreased significantly impurity-defect (500–720 indicating occurrence thermal quenching effect. excitation wavelength-dependent showed that first then with an wavelengths, was obtained 364 nm. In addition, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) results both bivalent trivalent iron ions found, bivalence dominant charge state atoms meaning they are suitable developing mid-infrared gain medium applications.
