Lubrication–Contact Interface Conditions and Novel Mixed/Boundary Lubrication Modeling Methodology

Abstract Under severe conditions, solid contacts take place even when parts are lubricated. Precise mathematical conditions needed to describe the interior interface between fluid lubrication and solid-contact zones. In order distinguish for this from conventional boundary they named lubrication–contact (LCICs). work, LCICs derived with local flow continuity continuum mechanics point of view pressure inequality across interface. Numerical implementations developed tested problems having simple geometries configurations, integrated into a new mixed/boundary elastohydrodynamic solver that uses method determine pressures. This is capable capturing film thickness behaviors involving contacts.
