Low frequency subthalamic stimulation and event-related potentials in Parkinson disease

چکیده

BackgroundHigh frequency (130 Hz) subthalamic Deep-Brain-Stimulation (STN-DBS) optimally improves cardinal motor symptoms in Parkinson disease (PD). Low stimulation frequencies (60–80 improve axial some patients and, according to preliminary evidences, may also have a beneficial effect on the cognitive component of planning.ObjectiveTo analyze configuration P300 cortical event-related auditory potentials (ERPs), reliable index attentive functions, at different STN-DBS PD patients.Methods12 underwent ERPs recordings using standard oddball paradigm with 60 Hz, 80 130 and OFF-stimulation, applied randomized double-blind sequence. analysis considered peak amplitude latency components midline electrode positions (Fz, Cz, Pz).ResultsP300 over Cz Pz electrodes significantly increased Hz compared OFF-stimulation. was increased, though lesser degree, Hz. No significant modifications were detected OFF-stimulation condition. did not change for any conditions tested.ConclusionsLow is associated minor conventional possibly suggesting that less interference processes patients.

Subthalamic stimulation in Parkinson disease: behavior and social adaptation.

BACKGROUND Bilateral subthalamic high-frequency stimulation significantly improves motor functions in patients with advanced forms of Parkinson disease (PD). This favorable effect contrasts with a growing number of reports that the treatment may result in psychiatric complications. OBJECTIVE To analyze the presence of behavioral disorders and social maladjustment in PD patients successfully t...

Subthalamic stimulation in Parkinson disease: with or without anesthesia?

OBJECTIVE To study the effects of general anesthesia on the postoperative outcome of patients with Parkinson disease (PD) who underwent surgery using bilateral placement of stimulating electrodes within the subthalamic nucleus (STN). DESIGN Retrospective analysis. SETTING Hôpital de la Salpêtrière, Paris, France. PATIENTS Fifteen PD patients who underwent bilateral implantation of electro...

Subthalamic stimulation in Parkinson disease: intraoperative predictive factors.

BACKGROUND High-frequency stimulation of the subthalamic nucleus (STN) is an effective treatment for advanced forms of Parkinson disease. Postoperative improvement of motor parkinsonian disability is known to depend on patient selection and surgical targeting. OBJECTIVE To determine which clinical and electrophysiological variables evaluated during the operation predict the postoperative clin...

Pallidal vs subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation in Parkinson disease.

BACKGROUND Deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the globus pallidus interna (GPi) and subthalamic nucleus (STN) has been reported to relieve motor symptoms and levodopa-induced dyskinesia in patients with advanced Parkinson disease (PD). Although it has been suggested that stimulation of the STN may be superior to stimulation of the GPi, comparative trials are limited. OBJECTIVE To extend our rand...

Impact of low frequency transcranial magnetic stimulation on event-related brain potentials.

Contradictory findings exist concerning the inhibitory function of low frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS). Therefore, the study examines the impact of different duration of low frequency rTMS on ERPs. In 17 subjects, auditory ERPs were measured before and after 1 Hz rTMS delivered over the left prefrontal cortex during 10 min (600 pulses) and 15 min (900 pulses). Resu...
