Low-dose radiation effects
نویسندگان
چکیده
The Earth was highly radioactive four billion years ago when life emerged. Even today, all humans are bombarded by 20,000 radiation strikes each second. Although high doses hazardous, organisms have evolved not only to tolerate lower-dose but also benefit it (hormesis). Hormesis is prevailing in species various respects. An example that hibakusha (Japanese A-bomb survivors) longer lifespans and lower risk of cancer, on average. Many microbes thrive deep subsurface regions consuming as a source nutrition. Low-dose (LDR) effective at treating severely affected COVID-19 patients, the invalid linear no-threshold model (LNT) hinders full beneficial use LDR.

Effects of Low-Dose Ionising Radiation
Recent years there have been a number of discussions about the magnitude of the health risks resulting from the exposure to low levels of ionising radiation mainly within the American Health Physics Society, the French Academy of Sciences and the Canadian Radiation Protection Association. Essentially, the debate has centred on the question of linearity, i.e., whether to assume that the probabil...
متن کاملScientific Risk Estimation on Health Effects of Low Dose and Low Dose-Rate Radiation - An Overview
Estimation of the scientific risks of high dose radiation has been successfully quantified by many studies using several different approaches. However, the risk for low and low dose-rate radiation is obscure because of a lack of evidence. This risk is currently estimated by extrapolating the radiation response at high doses into low dose ranges for practical purposes. Recent challenges to exami...
متن کاملLow-dose radiation induces antitumor effects and erythrocyte system hormesis.
OBJECTIVE Low dose radiation may stimulate the growth and development of animals, increase life span, enhance fertility, and downgrade the incidence of tumor occurrence. The aim of this study was to investigate the antitumor effect and hormesis in an erythrocyte system induced by low-dose radiation. METHODS Kunming strain male mice were subcutaneously implanted with S180 sarcoma cells in the r...
متن کاملLow-dose radiation: thresholds, bystander effects, and adaptive responses.
I onizing radiation fills the universe. Daily ionizing particles and rays collide with molecules in 1% of the 100 trillion cells that make up the average human. These collisions generate clusters of free radicals known as reactive oxygen species that randomly damage cellular constituents including DNA (1). Certain types of ionizing radiation are more effective at generating reactive oxygen spec...
متن کاملThe Complexity of Low Dose Radiation Health Effects: Understanding Non-targeted Radiation Effects
Unexpected events like the Fukushima Daiichi incident demonstrated the possibility that military personnel could potentially be exposed to low dose radiation (LDR). LDR cancer risks are uncertain and research has yet to establish cancer risks at LDRs because LDR epidemiological studies are difficult to conduct. Understanding LDR cancer risks is critical since it is difficult to predict the long...
