Love Food, Hate Waste? Ambivalence towards Food Fosters People’s Willingness to Waste Food

چکیده
Food waste is the origin of major social and environmental issues. In industrial societies, domestic households are biggest contributors to this problem. But why do people food although they buy value it? Answering question mandatory design effective interventions against waste. So far, however, many have not been based on theoretical knowledge. Integrating literature ambivalence research, we propose that can be understood via concept ambivalence—the simultaneous presence positive negative associations towards same attitude object. support notion, demonstrated in three pre-registered experiments experienced non-perishable products with expired best before dates. The experience was turn associated an increased willingness food. However, two informational aiming prevent from experiencing did work as intended (Experiment 3). We hope outlined conceptualization inspires theory-driven research when dispose how interventions.

Hydrothermal Liquefaction of Food Waste and Model Food Waste Compounds
Solid waste is generated at a rate of more than 4 lb per person per day. A significant portion of the non-recyclable waste is food waste, with high water content and low energy density. While most thermochemical conversion processes require a relatively dry feedstock, hydrothermal liquefaction uses subcritical water as the reaction medium and is therefore compatible with high-moisture feedstock...
متن کاملThe potential of food preservation to reduce food waste.
While we state it seems unthinkable to throw away nearly a third of the food we produce, we still continue to overlook that we are all very much part of this problem because we all consume meals. The amount of food wasted clearly has an impact on our view of what we think a sustainable meal is and our research suggests food waste is a universal function that can help us determine the sustainabi...
متن کاملFood Waste to Energy: An Overview of Sustainable Approaches for Food Waste Management and Nutrient Recycling
Food wastage and its accumulation are becoming a critical problem around the globe due to continuous increase of the world population. The exponential growth in food waste is imposing serious threats to our society like environmental pollution, health risk, and scarcity of dumping land. There is an urgent need to take appropriate measures to reduce food waste burden by adopting standard managem...
متن کاملFood Waste on the Agenda
Huge amounts of food waste are generated worldwide. Efficient valorisation strategies ensure that embedded energy and resources are at least partially recuperated. Food waste is a highly biodegradable material with high water content, and as such well destined for biogas production through anaerobic digestion. In order to ensure successful implementation of food waste valorisation via anaerobic...
