Looking back on compulsory school: narratives of young adults with ADHD in Sweden

Relegated to the margins of large body research on ADHD and school is individuals’ own retrospective accounts schooling. Drawing multiple narrative interviews with nine young adults in Sweden, present study explores their experiences reflections concerning years compulsory school. Despite variations gradient decline, time was described as a slippery slope, rapid deterioration secondary Participation sports cultural activities outside emerged strong supportive factors. The expectations placed individual context relationships teachers were key hurdles. In hindsight, perceived meaningless phase lives. findings nuance skewed diagnosis focus contemporary research, raising questions about timing support offering important insights girls ADHD.
