چکیده
AbstractAims This longitudinal study evaluated associations between glucose metabolism and cognitive performance during a 12-year follow-up. Methods We included 714 subjects, which were followedfrom the age 55 to 70 years. Using oral tolerance tests population was classified as normoglycemic (NGT) based on WHO diagnostic criteria for diabetes prediabetes. Cognitive assessed with verbal fluency (category) test wordlist learning of CERAD-nb, (letter) test, trail-making A B. Results Compared normal group subjects long-lasting prediabetes showed significantly greater decline (4.6 versus 2.9 words) (p = 0.041); type 2 (13 6 s) trail making 0.021) (3.3 1.7 0.013); combined or incident (3.8 in 0.039). Conclusion Prediabetes associated aging. finding should be incorporated into prevention strategies, because both dementia are increasing world-wide.

Ginkgo Biloba Extract and Long-Term Cognitive Decline: A 20-Year Follow-Up Population-Based Study
BACKGROUND Numerous studies have looked at the potential benefits of various nootropic drugs such as Ginkgo biloba extract (EGb761®; Tanakan®) and piracetam (Nootropyl®) on age-related cognitive decline often leading to inconclusive results due to small sample sizes or insufficient follow-up duration. The present study assesses the association between intake of EGb761® and cognitive function of...
متن کاملHomocysteine as a Risk Factor for Hypertension: A 2-Year Follow-Up Study
Homocysteine (Hcy) is regarded as a risk factor for hypertension, but research on the causal relationship between Hcy and hypertension is limited. In the present study, we prospectively tracked the blood pressure progression of a normotensive population with different Hcy levels over a 2-year period. The incidence of hypertension with increasing Hcy quartiles produced an approximately U-shaped ...
