Distributional Representations of N -functions

The subclasses N (∞) κ of the classes N κ of generalized Nevanlinna functions appear in the context of Pontryagin space models, where they correspond to model relations having a particular spectral behaviour. Applications are found, for instance, in the investigation of differential expressions with singular coefficients. We study representations of N (∞) κ-functions as Cauchy-type integrals in...

Rearrangements of Conditionally Integrable Functions

From an s-variate continuous function whose positive and negative parts both have infinite Lebesgue integral, we construct a continuous rearrangement whose generalized Riemann integral equals any prescribed value. The original function is assumed to be finite a.e., with domain an interval in IR. A similar result is obtained for functions defined on a ball.

Algebras of Riemann Integrable Functions

In the present paper we shall consider from two different standpoints the real Riemann integrable functions on a bounded closed interval / contained in En. Our results will be extendable to the complex case by standard arguments. (1) In §1 we designate the real valued Riemann integrable functions by R(I). If R(I) is normed by ||/|| =supx6j |/(x)| then it is known that R(I) is a Banach algebra. ...

Locally Constant Functions

Let X be a compact Hausdorff space and M a metric space. E0(X,M) is the set of f ∈ C(X,M) such that there is a dense set of points x ∈ X with f constant on some neighborhood of x. We describe some general classes of X for which E0(X,M) is all of C(X,M). These include βN\N, any nowhere separable LOTS, and any X such that forcing with the open subsets of X does not add reals. In the case thatM is...

Uniqueness for Locally Integrable Solutions of Overdetermined Systems

may very well vanish on a set of positive measure without vanishing identically. Here we explain these different behaviors in terms of geometric objects associated to each system, namely, the family of orbits of the system (0.1) (see Section 3 for precise definitions). Since the properties involved do not change if each vector Lj in (0.1) is replaced by a vector L′j = ∑ k ajk(x)Lk where the smo...
