Intersecting Families of Separated Sets
A set A ⊆ {1, 2, . . . , n} is said to be k-separated if, when considered on the circle, any two elements of A are separated by a gap of size at least k. We prove a conjecture due to Holroyd and Johnson [3],[4] that an analogue of the Erdős-Ko-Rado theorem holds for k-separated sets. In particular the result holds for the vertex-critical subgraph of the Kneser graph identified by Schrijver [7],...
متن کاملFamilies of locally separated Hamilton paths
We improve by an exponential factor the lower bound of Körner and Muzi for the cardinality of the largest family of Hamilton paths in a complete graph of n vertices in which the union of any two paths has degree 4. The improvement is through an explicit construction while the previous bound was obtained by a greedy algorithm. We solve a similar problem for permutations up to an exponential factor.
متن کاملSeparated finitely supported $Cb$-sets
The monoid $Cb$ of name substitutions and the notion of finitely supported $Cb$-sets introduced by Pitts as a generalization of nominal sets. A simple finitely supported $Cb$-set is a one point extension of a cyclic nominal set. The support map of a simple finitely supported $Cb$-set is an injective map. Also, for every two distinct elements of a simple finitely supported $Cb$-set, there exists...
متن کاملFamilies of sets with locally bounded width
A family of sets F is locally k-wide if and only if the width (as a poset ordered by inclusion) of F x = fU 2 F j x 2 U g is at most k for every x. The directed covering graph of a locally 1-wide family of sets is a forest of rooted trees. It is shown that if F is a locally k-wide family of subsets of f1; : : : ; ng, then jFj (2k) k?1 n. The proof involves a counting argument based on families ...
متن کاملEulerian edge sets in locally finite graphs
In a finite graph, an edge set Z is an element of the cycle space if and only if every vertex has even degree in Z. We extend this basic result to the topological cycle space, which allows infinite circuits, of locally finite graphs. In order to do so, it becomes necessary to attribute a parity to the ends of the graph.
