چکیده
The dynamic Smagorinsky model for large-eddy simulation of turbulent flow is often applied with some kind spatial averaging to prevent the instability simulations. This paper demonstrates that local constant has a singularity if not applied. identifies large values arising from this as source numerical and proposes an alternative without singularity. improved stability provides good results in simulations canonical flows.

Shear-improved Smagorinsky model for large-eddy simulation of wall-bounded turbulent flows
A shear-improved Smagorinsky model is introduced based on recent results concerning shear effects in wall-bounded turbulence by Toschi et al. (2000). The Smagorinsky eddyviscosity is modified as νT = (Cs∆) (|S|−|〈S〉|): the magnitude of the mean shear |〈S〉| is subtracted to the magnitude of the instantaneous resolved strain-rate tensor |S|; here CS is the standard Smagorinsky constant and ∆ deno...
متن کاملField Experimental Study of the Smagorinsky Model and Application to Large Eddy Simulation
Large-eddy simulation (LES) has become an indispensable tool for prediction of turbulent atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) flow. In LES, a subgrid-scale (SGS) model accounts for the dynamics of the unresolved scales of motion. The most widely used SGS model is an eddy-viscosity closure, the Smagorinsky model, which includes a parameter that must be prescribed in some fashion, the Smagorinsky con...

Diierent dynamic subgrid scale models, viz. the dynamic model of Germano et al. are evaluated by means of a priori tests. Direct numerical simulation data for fully-developed turbulent and transitional incompressible ows are used. Low correlation is obtained between exact and modeled subgrid scale stresses with the DSM. Conversely, good agreement is found for both the DMM and the DTM, since tho...

Mixed Large-Eddy Simulation Model for Turbulent Flows across Tube Bundles Using Parallel Coupled Multiblock NS Solver
In this study, turbulent flow around a tube bundle in non-orthogonal grid is simulated using the Large Eddy Simulation (LES) technique and parallelization of fully coupled Navier – Stokes (NS) equations. To model the small eddies, the Smagorinsky and a mixed model was used. This model represents the effect of dissipation and the grid-scale and subgrid-scale interactions. The fully coupled NS eq...
