Living in an ecotone: Late Middle Palaeolithic occupations in the lower Besor Basin, north-western Negev Desert, Israel

چکیده
The north-western Negev is an under-researched ecotonal region. We excavated two late Middle Palaeolithic open-air sites and recovered rich lithic industries that could be refitted, as well remains of fauna, charcoal. Palaeoenvironmental information dates indicate interesting inter-site differences.

Hominin Dispersal into the Nefud Desert and Middle Palaeolithic Settlement along the Jubbah Palaeolake, Northern Arabia
The Arabian Peninsula is a key region for understanding hominin dispersals and the effect of climate change on prehistoric demography, although little information on these topics is presently available owing to the poor preservation of archaeological sites in this desert environment. Here, we describe the discovery of three stratified and buried archaeological sites in the Nefud Desert, which i...
متن کاملAnalysis of dew precipitation in three habitats within a small arid drainage basin, Negev Highlands, Israel
Water availability is the most important limiting factor in arid lands. Any additional source of water, such as dew and fog, may have a positive impact upon the ecosystem. Dew and fog precipitation are largely dictated by weather conditions and habitat. Dew and fog measurements were carried out for 29 days in the fall of 1987–1989 at three distinctive habitats within a single drainage basin in ...
متن کاملLate Pleistocene and early Holocene rivers and wetlands in the Bonneville basin of western North America
Field investigations at Dugway Proving Ground in western Utah have produced new data on the chronology and human occupation of late Pleistocene and early Holocene lakes, rivers, and wetlands in the Lake Bonneville basin. We have classified paleo-river channels of these ages as “gravel channels” and “sand channels.” Gravel channels are straight to curved, digitate, and have abrupt bulbous ends. ...
متن کاملMiddle Bronze Age Settlement Patterns in the Western Galilee, Israel
Aharon Kempinski and Wolf-Dietrich Niemeier excavated Tel Kabri, in the western Galilee region of Israel (fig. 1), in the late 1980s and early 1990s (Kempinski, Scheftelowitz, and Oren 2002). They found that during the Middle Bronze Age (MB) II period (ca. 1750–1600 b.c.) the site had been the center of a strong coastal polity. In size and importance, it may have been second only to Hazor in th...
