Lives that Matter: Criminology and Global Security Inequality

Abstract Ideals of universalism and the idea that all lives are equally valuable, should be worthy protection, form a standard narrative for human rights regimes international legal instruments. However, realities on ground marked by social arrangements where de facto unequally protected. The article addresses one central criminological concepts perspectives—that inequality—and examines possible avenues theorizing dynamics global security inequality. How well equipped is criminology to address underlying processes stratification which shape decisions about whose life gets protected, what means? What might understanding inequality look like? To extent do existing analyzing enhance or impede our cleavages?
