Liver Fat Scores for Noninvasive Diagnosis and Monitoring of Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease in Epidemiological and Clinical Studies

چکیده
Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is strongly associated with the metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes independently contributes to long-term complications. Being often asymptomatic but reversible, it would require population-wide screening, direct diagnostics are either too invasive (liver biopsy), costly (MRI) or depending on examiner’s expertise (ultrasonography). Hepatosteatosis usually accommodated by features of (e.g. obesity, disturbances in triglyceride glucose metabolism), signs hepatocellular damage, all which reflected biomarkers, poorly predict NAFLD as single item, provide a cheap diagnostic alternative when integrated into composite fat indices. Fatty index, LFS, hepatic steatosis index common accurate indices for prediction, show limited accuracy quantification. Other rarely used. Hepatic fibrosis scores commonly used clinical practice, their mandatory reflection fibrotic reorganization, injury systemic sequelae reduces sensitivity diagnosis simple steatosis. Diet-induced changes indices, intervention its specific impact weight loss NAFLD. This validity longitudinal settings stimulates research new equations. Adipokines, hepatokines, markers cellular integrity, genetic variants also inexpensive routine parameters might be potential components. Currently, lack precision prediction monitoring individual patients, large cohorts they may substitute nonexistent imaging data serve compound biomarker cardiometabolic sequelae.

Noninvasive diagnosis of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.
Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common cause of chronic liver disease, affecting approximately 30% of Western populations and a frequent indication for liver transplantation. The histologic spectrum of NAFLD includes simple steatosis, which has a benign prognosis, and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, a more aggressive form of liver injury that may progress to cirrhosis and its...

Background & Objective: Nonalcoholic fatty liver diseases (NAFLD) is the major cause of hepatocellular carcinoma and increases the risk of mortality. Understanding the trends of its clinical and biochemical changes is essential to identify patients with NAFLD that are at the greatest risk of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and cirrhosis in Iran. M...

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is increasing in pediatric age group parallel to the growing prevalence of obesity and overweight all around the world. So changing in life style and interventions on obesogenic environment is cornerstone of NAFLD therapy in obese children. Some experts recommend that children and adolescents be encouraged to follow a low-fat, low-glycemic-index diet t...
متن کاملNoninvasive Markers for the Diagnosis of Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease
Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is an outstanding example of the complex pathophysiology of the metabolic system and represents both a source and consequence of metabolic syndrome. NAFLD can be seen as the hepatic manifestation of metabolic syndrome and is particularly associated with insulin resistance, obesity, and abnormalities of glucose and lipid metabolism [1]. Furthermore, NAFLD...
متن کاملNoninvasive diagnosis of pediatric nonalcoholic fatty liver disease
Because nonalcoholic steatohepatitis can progress towards cirrhosis even in children, early detection of hepatic fibrosis and accurate diagnosis of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) are important. Although liver biopsy is regarded as the gold standard of diagnosis, its clinical application is somewhat limited in children due to its invasiveness. Noninvasive diagnostic methods, including ...
