Little Ice Age Revealed in Tree?Ring?Based Precipitation Record From the Northwest Himalaya, India

چکیده

The spatial and temporal span of hydrological impact the “Little Ice Age” (LIA) in north-western Himalaya is not well constrained due to data limitation. We evaluated a network tree-ring chronologies from moisture-stressed ecological settings Jammu Kashmir identify LIA over western Himalaya. Our study reflects three centennial scale phases; middle phase (1650s–1850s CE) with stable precipitation accordance other records clearly demarcates However, high-magnitude droughts recorded early (1383–1650s late phases (1850s–2017) underpin that did witness any influence before 1650s.

Spatial and Temporal Characteristics of the Little Ice Age: The Antarctic Ice Core Record

Recently, ice core records from both hemispheres, in conjunction with other proxy records (e.g., tree rings, speleothems and corals), have shown that the Little Ice Age (LIA) was spatially extensive, extending to the Antarctic. This paper examines the temporal and spatial characteristics of the dust and 5180 infonnation from Antarctic ice cores. Substantial differences exist in the records. For...

A 1500-year record of tropical precipitation in ice cores from the quelccaya ice cap, peru.

Two ice cores, covering 1500 years of climatic information, from the summit (5670 meters) of the tropical Quelccaya ice cap, in the Andes of southern Peru, provide information on general environmental conditions including droughts, volcanic activity, moisture sources, temperature, and glacier net balance. The net balance record reconstructed from these cores reflects major precipitation trends ...

Seasonal precipitation gradients and their impact on fluvial sediment flux in the Northwest Himalaya

a r t i c l e i n f o Precipitation in the form of rain and snowfall throughout the Himalaya controls river discharge and erosional processes and, thus, has a first-order control on the fluvial sediment flux. Here, we analyze daily precipitation data (1998–2007) of 80 weather stations from the northwestern Himalaya in order to decipher temporal and spatial moisture gradients. In addition, suspe...

Convergence across the northwest Himalaya from GPS measurements

[1] Horizontal velocities of 26 Global Positioning System (GPS) stations in the northwest Himalayan region provide new constraints on the partitioning of India-Eurasia convergence and elastic strain accumulation about the locked Main Frontal Thrust (MFT). The northwest-striking Karakorum fault slips at 11 ± 4 mm/yr and contributes to east-west extension of southern Tibet and westward motion of ...
