Liquid Biopsy Analysis in Clinical Practice: Focus on Lung Cancer
نویسندگان
چکیده
Lung cancer is the leading cause of death worldwide. Despite emergence highly effective targeted therapies, up to 30% advanced stage non-small cell lung (NSCLC) patients do not undergo tissue molecular testing because scarce availability. Liquid biopsy, on other hand, offers these a valuable opportunity receive best treatment options in timely manner. Indeed, besides being much faster and less invasive than conventional tissue-based analysis, it can also yield specific information about genetic make-up evolution patients’ tumors. However, several issues, including lack standardized protocols for sample collection, processing, interpretation, still need be addressed before liquid biopsy fully incorporated into routine oncology practice. Here, we reviewed most important challenges hindering implementation practice, as well great advantages this approach NSCLC patients.

The important challenge about cancer is diagnosis in primary stages and proper treatment. Although classical clinico-pathological features of the tumor have major prognostic value, the advances in diagnosis and treatment are indebted to discovery of molecular biomarkers and control of cancer in the pre-invasive state. Moreover, the efficiency of available therapeutic options is highly diminishe...
متن کاملLiquid biopsy genotyping in lung cancer: ready for clinical utility?
Liquid biopsy is a blood test that detects evidence of cancer cells or tumor DNA in the circulation. Despite complicated collection methods and the requirement for technique-dependent platforms, it has generated substantial interest due, in part, to its potential to detect driver oncogenes such as epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutants in lung cancer. This technology is advancing rapid...
متن کاملThe liquid biopsy in lung cancer
The incidence of lung cancer has significantly increased over the last century, largely due to smoking, and remains the most common cause of cancer deaths worldwide. This is often due to lung cancer first presenting at late stages and a lack of curative therapeutic options at these later stages. Delayed diagnoses, inadequate tumor sampling, and lung cancer misdiagnoses are also not uncommon due...
متن کاملLiquid Biopsy in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer
Liquid biopsy analyses are already incorporated in the routine clinical practice in many hospitals and oncology departments worldwide, improving the selection of treatments and monitoring of lung cancer patients. Although they have not yet reached its full potential, liquid biopsy-based tests will soon be as widespread as "standard" biopsies and imaging techniques, offering invaluable diagnosti...
متن کاملAdvances in liquid biopsy on-chip for cancer management: Technologies, biomarkers, and clinical analysis.
Liquid biopsy, as a minimally invasive method of gleaning insight into the dynamics of diseases through a patient fluid sample, has been growing in popularity for cancer diagnosis, prognosis, and monitoring. While many technologies have been developed and validated in research laboratories, there has also been a push to expand these technologies into other clinical settings and as point of care...
