Semi-constrained total elbow arthroplasty for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis of the elbow.
INTRODUCTION We retrospectively reviewed the results of total elbow arthroplasty in patients with rheumatoid arthritis of the elbow followed for a minimum of two years. METHODS Between September 1999 and March 2001, seven patients with rheumatoid arthritis of the elbow were treated with total elbow arthroplasty using the semi-constrained Coonrad-Morrey elbow replacement prostheses. One patien...
متن کاملSalvage of elbow function by semi-constrained total elbow arthroplasty following a complex proximal ulnar fracture: a case report.
A linked total elbow prosthesis was used in an elderly patient to salvage elbow function following failed attempts at osteosynthesis for a comminuted fracture of the proximal ulna associated with a radial head dislocation. A good functional result was obtained at 46 months follow-up, despite questionable healing of the ulnar fracture.
متن کاملModular Connection Fatigue Testing of a Linked Semi-Constrained Total Elbow Prosthesis
Introduction: The evolution of third and fourth generation linked, semi-constrained total elbow replacements (TER) have employed an increasing use of modularity to facilitate component linkage and inter-operative flexibility. In general, modular connections (MC) used in orthopedic devices may carry inherent risks of adverse events resulting from component fracture, loosening, micromotion, frett...
متن کاملTotal Elbow Arthroplasty
Total elbow arthroplasty has continued to evolve over time. Elbow implants may be linked or unlinked. Unlinked implants are attractive for patients with relatively well preserved bone stock and ligaments, but many favor linked implants, since they prevent instability and allow replacement for a wider spectrum of indications. Inflammatory arthropathies such as rheumatoid arthritis represent the ...
متن کاملTotal elbow arthroplasty: current options.
Total elbow arthroplasty (TEA) has changed considerably in the past three decades. Based on the good long-term results with TEA in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, the indications expanded to include management of acute traumatic and posttraumatic conditions in young, higher-demand patients. Today, unlinked, linked semiconstrained, and convertible devices are available. The high complication...
