چکیده

In this work, we investigate the axionlike particle (ALP)-photon oscillation effect in spectra of blazar Markarian 421 (Mrk 421) using 4.5 years Astrophysical Radiation with Ground-based Observatory at YangBaJing (ARGO-YBJ) and Fermi Large Area Telescope (Fermi-LAT) data. These data are collected during common operation time, which cover ten activity phases Mrk 421. No significant ALP-photon is confirmed. On other hand, not all observations can be individually used to set 95% confidence level (C.L.) constraint on ALP parameter space. However, significantly improved if analyses for combined. We find that upper limit C.L. coupling ${g}_{a\ensuremath{\gamma}}$ by ARGO-YBJ Fermi-LAT within $\ensuremath{\sim}[2\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}11},6\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}11}]\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{GeV}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ mass $\ensuremath{\sim}5\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}10}\text{ }\mathrm{eV}\ensuremath{\lesssim}{m}_{a}\ensuremath{\lesssim}5\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}7}\text{ }\mathrm{eV}$.

Inverse Compton gamma - rays from Markarian 421 - A study of GeV and TeV emission from Mrk 421 based on Fermi - LAT and H . E . S . S . data

This thesis summarizes a senior project on the Active Galactic Nucleus (AGN) Markarian 421 (Mrk 421). An AGN is thought to be the site of acceleration where gamma-rays are generated in energy jets at kpc-Mpc scales. From this mechanism, an intense flux of GeV and TeV photons is created by means of non-thermal processes, e.g. synchrotron radiation and inverse Compton. Mrk 421 is one of the most ...

Limits from rapid TeV variability of Mrk 421

The extreme variability event in the TeV emission of Mrk 421, recently reported by the Whipple team, imposes the tightest limits on the typical size of the TeV emitting regions in Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN). We examine the consequences that this imposes on the bulk Lorentz factor of the emitting plasma and on the radiation fields present in the central region of this Active Nucleus. No strong...

Newton timing mode observations of Mrk 421

We present the results of a detailed temporal analysis of the bright BL Lac object Mrk 421 using the three available long timing mode observations by the EPIC PN camera. This detector mode is characterized by its long life time and is largely free of photon pile-up problems. The source was found in different intensity and variability states differing by up to more than a factor of three in coun...

Limits on Large Extra Dimensions Based on Observations of Neutron Stars with the Fermi-LAT

We present limits for the compactification scale in the theory of Large Extra Dimensions (LED) proposed by Arkani-Hamed, Dimopoulos, and Dvali. We use 11 months of data from the Fermi Large Area Telescope (Fermi-LAT) to set gamma ray flux limits for 6 gamma-ray faint neutron stars (NS). To set limits on LED we use the model of Hannestad and Raffelt (HR) that calculates the Kaluza-Klein (KK) gra...

Fermi -LAT Observations of Markarian 421: the Missing Piece of its Spectral Energy Distribution

We report on the γ-ray activity of the high-synchrotron-peaked BL Lacertae object Mrk 421 during the first 1.5 years of Fermi operation, from 2008 August 5 to 2010 March 12. We find that the Large Area Telescope (LAT) γ-ray spectrum above 0.3GeV can be well-described by a power-law function with photon index Γ = 1.78 ± 0.02 and average photon flux F (> 0.3GeV) = (7.23 ± 0.16) × 10 ph cm s. Over...
