Limited Phosphorous Supply Improved Lipid Content of Chlorella vulgaris That Increased Phenol and 2-Chlorophenol Adsorption from Contaminated Water with Acid Treatment

Phenolic compounds are toxic and ominously present in industrial effluents, which can end up water bodies, causing potential damage to living organisms. This study employed the dried biomass of freshwater green microalgae Chlorella vulgaris remove phenol 2-chlorophenol from an aqueous environment. C. was grown under different phosphorus- (P) starved conditions, treated with sulfuric acid. It observed that reducing P level enhanced lipid content by 7.8 times while decreasing protein 7.2 times. P-starved removed 69 57%, respectively, after 180 min contaminated water. Acid-treated 77 75%, min. Thus, economical eco-friendly acid has better ground wastewater.
