Liminal (trans)formative spaces: A temporary escape from intersectionality

This paper is an examination of identity narratives a small group trans-national transpeople in Australia. We reveal the complex journey undertaken by this group. Transpeople Sub-continental origin consume temporarily transformational negotiating, resisting and subverting dominant discourses that construct heterosexuality, gayness, whiteness femininity. They carve out temporary liminal spaces resistance within which to perform as “weekend women.” identify transforming, transitioning, transcending across gender ethnic boundaries, see being enabled specific transnational consumption imaginaries meshed intersectional race/ethnicity gender. follow intertwined forms “matrix domination” way thirdspaces create decolonized enable them escape matrix (trans)formative, movement back forth between their weekday/weekend differently gendered/cultured selves. Ultimately, these bring only release with inevitable return weekday male identity.
