چکیده
Abstract. Lightning is the major cause of natural ignition wildfires worldwide and produces largest in some regions. strokes produce about 5 % forest fires Mediterranean Basin are one most important precursors during summer. Lightning-ignited significant emissions aerosols, black carbon, trace gases, such as CO, SO2, CH4, O3, affecting air quality. Characterization meteorological cloud conditions lightning-ignited can serve to improve fire forecasting models upgrade implementation atmospheric models. This study investigates (LIWs) long continuing current (LCC) lightning flashes Iberian Peninsula Greece. LCC dry thunderstorms with a low precipitation rate have been proposed be main wildfires. We use data provided by World Wide Location Network (WWLLN), Earth Networks Total (ENTLN), Imaging Sensor (LIS) on board International Space Station (ISS), together four databases produced Spain, Portugal, southern France, Greece, respectively, order climatology LIWs over Basin. In addition, we European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) ERA5 reanalysis set Spanish State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), Cloud Top Height product (CTHP) derived from Meteosat Second Generation (MSG) satellites measurements investigate lightning. According our results, amount tend occur weak updrafts. Our results suggest that clouds high base vertical content moisture lower than climatological value, well higher temperature rate. Unusually intense continuing current in lightning produces delayed mesospheric breakdown
Ultra low frequency magnetic field measurements made 500–2000 km from positive lightning discharges show a signature that is consistent with unusually high amplitude cloud-to-ground continuing lightning current. The magnitude of this nearly constant current moment is as large as 60 kA km and can last at half this amplitude for longer than 150 ms, thereby moving 640 C or more (assuming a 7 km ve...
متن کاملUsing model-based geostatistics to predict lightning-caused wildfires
The probability of fire in a particular area depends on a range of environmental and geographic variables. Fire prevention planning can be assisted by the construction of models to identify the variables that have a significant influence on the occurrence of fires and by building maps showing the spatial probability distribution for fires occurring in specific geographic areas. We used generali...
متن کاملLightning Discharge and Fundamentals of Lightning Protection
A review of lightning protection concepts introduced by Benjamin Franklin (18th century) and James Clerk Maxwell (19th century) is given. Modern approaches to lightning protection of various structures and systems are discussed. In particular, the widely used electrogeometrical model (one version of which is the Rolling Sphere Method) and the topological shielding are presented. Bonding require...
متن کاملCurrent moment in sprite-producing lightning
Studies of sprite-producing lightning have revealed much of what we currently know about the mechanisms responsible for this phenomenon. With a combination of new and previous results, we summarize the currently known quantitative characteristics of this special class of lightning. This information has come primarily from the quantitative analysis of the electromagnetic 0elds produced by distan...
متن کاملCN Tower Lightning Return-Stroke Current Simulation
Different functions have been used to model the lightning return-stroke current with the aid of direct current measurements at tall structures. In this paper, a comparison between the Pulse function and Heilder function is carried out to find out the suitability of each of these functions for simulating the lightning return-stroke current, measured at the CN Tower. An automated system for deter...
