Life cycle assessment of rainbow trout farming in the temperate climate zone based on the typical farm concept

Fish from aquaculture has the ability to meet consumer demand for a healthy and sustainable diet. The environmental footprint of fish farming depends largely on method production. Trout production in temperate climate zone open flow-through systems using natural hydraulic gradient streams as freshwater supply is energy efficient relative more intensive systems. To investigate possibility reducing global warming potential, eutrophication acidification ozone layer depletion associated with rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) southern Germany, comprehensive dataset collected under typical farm framework was analyzed cradle-to-gate life cycle assessment conducted. impact feed source (plant- fish-based) analyzed, well that photovoltaic panels installed over area.
