Life cycle assessment and life cycle cost analysis of Jatropha biodiesel production in China

Abstract In this study, a Life Cycle Cost (LCC) is integrated within life cycle assessment (LCA) model to comprehensively evaluate the energy, environment, and economic impacts of Jatropha biodiesel production in China. The total energy consumption producing 1 ton 17566.16 MJ, which fertilizer utilization methanol consume 78.14% 18.65% overall consumption, respectively. emits number pollutants, including 1184.52 kg CO 2 , 5.86 dust, 5.59 NO x 2.67 SO 2.38 CH 4 1.05 CO. By calculating comparing their environmental potentials, it was discovered that dust emissions during application, combustion shells, urgently require improvement, as they contribute serious global warming particulate matter formation issues. LCC study shows cost 796.32 USD/ton, mostly contributed by oil (44.37% cost) human input (26.70% cost). Additional profits are generated shells glycerol by-product, can compensate 16.76% biodiesel.
