Levels of Enjoyment in Class Are Closely Related to Improved English Proficiency

This study investigated the factors, such as students’ foreign language enjoyment, their classroom anxiety, teacher’s choice (English-only instruction versus English with limited legitimate Japanese support), and demographics that affect improvement in proficiency EFL communicative classes. Ninety-three college students Japan participated this research, for which they completed a questionnaire after seventh lesson of 14 total lessons during semester. In addition to t-tests, stepwise multiple linear regression analysis was performed using dependent variable change every student’s scores between midterm final examination six independent variables: age, gender, nationality, choice, anxiety levels, enjoyment levels. The results reveal higher levels class are significantly correlated proficiency. present suggests instead regardless teachers’ choices. Therefore, it is important teachers provide classes enjoyable by motivating providing activities will succeed, thereby ensuring self-confidence.
