Leukocyte count is associated with aortic arch plaque thickness.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Leukocyte count has been associated with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease, including carotid plaque thickness, in several studies. We hypothesized that white blood cell count is associated with aortic arch plaque thickness (AAPT). METHODS Leukocyte count was measured in randomly selected stroke-free community participants undergoing transesophageal echocardiog...
متن کاملShort leukocyte telomere length is associated with aortic dissection.
BACKGROUND Aortic dissection is an age-related and lethal vascular disease. Aging, which is associated with degeneration, is the major risk factor of aortic dissection. Telomeres are specialized DNA structures located at the end of eukaryotic chromosomes, the telomere length could be considered as an index of vascular aging. The purpose of present study was undertaken to investigate the relatio...
متن کاملPlaque morphology correlates with cerebrovascular symptoms in patients with complex aortic arch plaque.
BACKGROUND Studies of aortic arch plaques with transesophageal echocardiography have demonstrated that complex aortic arch plaques (CAPs) greater than or equal to 4 mm in thickness are associated with ischemic stroke. Recent studies have demonstrated that the morphological features of plaques may aid in the identification of aortic plaques that are more likely to be associated with embolic stro...
متن کاملEsophageal cancer associated with right aortic arch.
CT revealed also a right aortic arch, classified as an aortic anomaly of type III-A: A mirror image branching of the normal left aortic arch, according to Edward’s classification (Panel B). Type IIIB is the most frequent, followed by Type IIIA. The classification of aortic anomalies by Edward’s et al. is based on their theoretical concept of the development of the aortic arch. Right aortic arch...
متن کاملA case of aortic atresia associated with right aortic arch.
A case of aortic atresia associated with right aortic arch is described. This is the second case in the literature. The diagnosis of aortic atresia was made prior to death by right heart catheterization with angiocardiography and this was confirmed at autopsy. The necessity of an early and accurate diagnosis of this disease is discussed for providing more opportunity of surgical treatment.
