Room decontamination using an ultraviolet-C device with short ultraviolet exposure time.
Results: UV-C Technology effectively reduces environmental contamination and should be considered when environmental transmission is significant. The Optimum UV TM device achieved an overall 3.56-log10 reduction for MRSA in 5 minutes and an overall 2.78-log10 reduction for C. difficile spores in 10 minutes in typical patient rooms (not treated with UV reflective wall coating). When the pa...

This paper proposes a multiple exposure images based traffic light recognition method. For traffic light recognition, color segmentation is widely used to detect traffic light signals; however, the color in an image is easily affected by various illuminations and leads to incorrect recognition results. In order to overcome the problem, we propose the multiple exposure technique which enhances t...
متن کاملRetinal lesions due to ultraviolet laser exposure.
The morphologic appearance of retinal lesions induced by 325 nm radiation from a helium cadmium laser is described. The damage is limited primarily to the outer retinal layers with only minimal or moderate retinal pigment epithelial changes. The lowest radiant exposure to produce a light microscopic lesion was 0.15 J/cm2, which is about a factor of two below the ophthalmoscopic threshold.
متن کاملArginase activity in epidermis following ultraviolet exposure.
Since the discovery of the enzyme arginase in extracts of mammalian liver , many investigators have reported the presence of arginase activtiy in many other tissues and various neoplastic tissues. In 1948 , Mardashev, Semina and Van Scott demonstrated, independently , that the arginase activity in the skin was located predominantly in the epidermis. Enzyme activity was also found to be signific...
متن کاملUltraviolet radiation exposure, vitamin D, and cancer.
This paper reviews briefly the evidence for an association between various measures of UV radiation (UVR) exposure and the development of cancer. Issues such as data quality, study design, measurement variation, comparability of studies, and quantification of UV exposure in relation to skin cancer are discussed. A range of exposure, based on skin type, might be appropriate: from 5 min a day thr...
