چکیده

Abstract This analytical note shall provide a contribution to the understanding of general principles in Mechanics (symmetric circular) masonry arches. Within mainstream previous research work by authors (and competent framing dedicated literature), devoted investigate classical structural optimization problem leading least-thickness condition under self-weight (“Couplet-Heyman problem”), and relevant characteristics purely rotational five-hinge collapse mode, new complementary information is here analytically derived. Peculiar extremal conditions are explicitly inspected, as those maximum intrinsic non-dimensional horizontal thrust foremost wide angular inner-hinge position from crown, both occurring for specific instances over-complete (horseshoe) The whole obtained, confronted, three typical solution cases, i.e., Heyman, “CCR” Milankovitch instances, all together, full closed-form explicit representations, elucidated illustrations.
